We live a little over 10 miles away from my daughter’s Elementary School, so driving her to school every day takes a lot of time and gas. As you can imagine, this isn’t ideal, but when it comes to the education of my children, they deserve the best. But I just wish it was closer. I know that most countries, like the UK, have catchment areas explained to them so they can find the best school in their area. I’m hoping for their sake that it is under 10 miles, but that is up to them to decide, I guess. My daughter is none the wiser when it comes to how far away it is, which I’m grateful for.
Like any parent, I was a little worried that she’d be afraid to ride the bus by herself, so on the first day my husband and I promised to meet her at the school as soon as the bus got there. As we got ready, she was excited and ready to go. That didn’t last though, as soon as we heard the bus coming up the street, I could tell she got a little nervous. As the bus stopped, she decides to turn and try to escape back to the house. After much coaxing from my husband and I, we were able to walk her to the bus, with tears in her eyes. The bus driver and other kids were so nice and friendly too her. We reached the school and walked her to her class, just to get her used to the situation. Turns out one of her classmates catches the bus as well. She road the bus home that afternoon, and was fine.
Two days later we figured we’d let her sleep in a little and take her to school. It was a Hula Practice day, and being that the bus picks her up at 6:40, it’s a very long day for her. I was shocked to see that she was disappointed to have missed the bus! “Why didn’t you wake me up?”, she asked “I wanted to catch the bus!” So much for doing her a favor and letting her sleep in! And what happened to the girl with tears in her eyes? The one we practically forced to get on the bus? I’m happy to say that little girl now LOVES riding the school bus!
So, this morning my youngest daughter was up as her big sister got ready for school. She wanted to put on her backpack just like her big sister, and said she was going to ride the bus too! It was definitely the perfect Photo opportunity, so I ran in to get my camera! She loves her big sister so much!
