iPad 2 for Kids?

I know a lot of people think we’re crazy for getting our daughter her very own iPad 2 for Christmas. My hubby actually thought I was crazy when I first told him! lol. It wasn’t until Black Friday that I finally talked him in to get it. We got it directly through apple, I believe it was $41 off. I also shopped through rebates and saved an extra 2% on the purchase. So it ended up being a decent deal for an iPad 2.

I wanted to get her something that she’d really make use of. The way I see it is, you could spend A LOT on toys, and have them play with them once, or you can get something they’ll actually USE. I must say, she has already got our money’s worth! She uses her iPad daily. Whether it’s playing games, recording herself, taking pictures, or using face time, she’s getting lots of use out of her iPad. She has already recorded tons of videos of herself singing her favorite songs like Justin Beiber’s “Baby”. She also plays a few games. Fruit Ninja seems to be her favorite at the moment, and she LOVES to call her aunties through FaceTime. She’s always checking to see what they’re up to! I’ve also downloaded some movies &2 t.v shows for her. Her portable dvd player finally gave up recently after 3 years, and I’m glad I didn’t get her another one. The Ipad is great for watching movies!

So as you can see, the iPad 2 really is great for kids. If you’re worried about the games, there are TONS of games to choose from, a lot of which are educational. Additionally, there are some educational sites that can help kids understand basic math calculations and science terms. For example, a military time converter can teach kids how to read time and what a 12-hour and 24-hour clock is. Moreover, there are plenty of free and cheap applications available for kids to play and learn.

Say you got your kid a DS. You spend a little over $100. Then you have to buy games! Those things add up, and they aren’t going to be $0.99, and definitely NOT free! You’ll end up spending way more on the DS and games than you would on an iPad, and you wouldn’t be able to do all the cool things you can with the iPad. So YES, I am a big fan of the iPad 2, and YES I do use my daughter’s Ipad A LOT! lol…she’s always trying to get it away from me. I can’t get enough of “Words with Friends”. So why did I get my daughter an iPad when I don’t even have one? I’m holding out for the iPad 3! I sure hope it’s out soon!

I’ll soon be posting a review of the case we have on my daughter’s iPad, so stay tuned!

If my daughter was older I would probably get her one too. I am lost without mine. Not to mention when we do a roadtrip this summer I will be using it to entertain her. We just got back from a trip to LA and she watched Happy Feet on the way back. It was so nice to have. If you can afford it I say why not!
