The Not Very Merry Pout-Pout Fish is a wonderful story by the creators of the New York Times bestseller The Pout-Pout Fish. It was written by Deborah Diesen and illustrated by Dan Hanna.

With Christmas drawing near, Mr. Fish is in search of the perfect gifts for his friends. He shops and shops, but to his dismay, he’s having trouble finding just what he’s looking for. When he thinks he’s let all his friends down, one lovely friend lets him know that gifts are not what’s important, he is, and all he really needs to bring to the party is himself. If he still wishes to bring gifts for his friends he realizes that he doesn’t have to buy them because the best gifts of all come straight from the heart!
The Not Very Merry Pout-Pout Fish is a great book to read to children. Through the story kids will learn that Christmas is not all about the biggest and greatest presents. Yes, it is the season for giving, but they do not need to go out and buy gifts. Instead, they can make gifts for others. Gifts that come straight from the heart are the best gifts of all. My girls enjoy making gifts for others and I think those gifts are so special. I love that this story acknowledges the fact that hand made gifts are wonderful!
