I’m so excited for Christmas! It has got to be my most favorite time of the year. I love everything about the Holiday Season, from the cool winter weather to Christmas songs and buying gifts. I treasure every moment and try to make the most of it.
I’ve always wanted to make my own Advent Calendar. For years I’d buy the cheap $3.00 Advent Calendars they sell at Target or Walmart. You know, the ones where you open up one section every day to get a piece of very low quality chocolate (yuck!). It was fun for the kids, and a great way to count down the days, but I wanted something more! Unfortunately, time always seems to fly by so quickly. I never did get the chance to make a calendar of my own. I still love seeing and admiring what others have made and hope to one day have a chance to make one of my own.
First, you may need to have all the material you need to come up with one of your own. If you do not have the necessary materials to create Advent calendars, you can prepare a list of such items and order them from the appropriate websites or stores. Among the common tools, you’ll need for a DIY project are cutters, glue, colors, an airbrush with a powerful compressor (for more information, see the best air compressor for airbrush here), and scisssors.
Making your own can be a lot of fun, plus, when you make your own, you can do it not only for kids but adults as well. We may be older, but having an advent calendar is for all ages, no matter what anyone says! You can go the classic route with chocolates, or you can go a bit bolder and do an alcoholic calendar. We haven’t put one in here, but, with a little adjustment to some of the typical calendars, you can put in some of the best canned cocktails or beers out there behind the numbered doors/pockets, and make an adults December great!
After scouring the web for different ideas, I found 20 awesome ideas for Advent Calendars you can make at home. A few of these ideas even come with free printables or templates to help you along. Some are very inexpensive and simple to make, while others may take a little more talent in the “crafty” department. While searching for different ideas, I found that you can make advent calendars with just about anything! You’ll see them made with everything from toilet paper rolls to muffin tins and card stock. Browse through the 20 ideas below, and let me know what you think.

How creative. I wish I though literally out of the box when my children were younger and did something like this instead of wanting a sturdy type of one that I would use year after year.

I love these ideas for an advent calendar. I can’t wait to see which one my daughter will choose. We always bought the one with the cheap chocolate too but my daughter just threw it away, she wouldn’t eat it!

The very first one done with the pallet board suits my beach girl sensibilities but I also think the more modern Christmas Trees are very pretty. I guess I’m just a little eclectic. lol

I love the Magnetic Advent Calendar and the Mickey Advent Calendar. I remember the cheap yucky chocolate ones to. My mom bought my 2 sisters and I our own. I bought them for my daughter when she was little. I have a snowman one with a little candy cane on a string to count the days down. I ordered some hershey minis to put in each day so my nieces can have some good chocolate. Lol! I love Christmas and celebrating the birth of Christ. Thank you for the great post & Merry Christmas 🎄
