Decluttering – Clearing out the DVDs

pile of DVDs

I have an entertainment center filled with DVDs.  Most of them, have never been watched in years.  Some I bought from yard sales, others I’ve owned probably since DVDs first came out!  My two year old loves taking all the DVDs out of the entertainment center.  She’ll take them out of their cases and pile them on the floor.  As you can imagine, I always have a big mess to clean up!  Since we no longer watch most of those DVDs I decided it might be best to get rid of them.  It’s time to Declutter the DVD shelf!  What’s the point of having all these DVDs if we no longer watch them?  We use Netflix a lot now, so there really isn’t a need for most of the DVDs although there are a few that I will be keeping.

Are you ready to declutter your DVD shelf too?

Go through the DVDs, separate them into 3 piles. Keep, Sell/Share, Toss

Keep- There may be some movies that you really love.  I have the movie Cry Baby, it’s an older movie featuring Johnny Depp.  It’s one of my all time favorite movies, and I’ll definitely be keeping it!  Your kids might also have a few favorites, keep those too.  You don’t want to have them asking for a movie you’ve already gotten rid of.

Sell/Share- If you know someone who might want some of the DVDs, you can always give them away or you can donate them.  If you’d like to try an make a little money off of them, you can try selling them at a Yard Sale, or you can Sell Them Online.  It’s always nice to make a little extra cash!

Toss- We have a few DVDs that are scratched.  You watch them halfway through, then they freeze up or start skipping.  I don’t know why I’ve always just put them back in their cases and back on the DVD shelf.  Well, it’s time to throw those out!  There’s no since in keeping DVDs you can’t even watch.

Once you’re done, you can enjoy your newly decluttered DVD shelf and try your best not to clutter the free space up with something else.

Oh man I should do that too, I have tons of CDs and DVDs that I no longer use and they’re just gathering dust in the room.

We just went though all of over DVD’s last weekend, what a chore but at least my DVD cabinet looks less cluttered.

I would photograph and show you the intense amount of DVDs my boyfriend has.. he’s a cinema student so he piled them up throughout the years. I wish I could get rid of all of them and have them all saved in one portable hard disk!

This is a great tip! At my house we have all our movies in binders since we move so much. We take out the paper inserts and recycle the plastic. It is a great way to save on space and weight.

Our family is getting ready to move and getting rid of DVDs is at the top of my list. Netflix and our BluRay player make DVDs a thing of the past.

I’ll take this into consideration. Haven’t got lots of DVDs though. We usually watch movies at the cinema. 🙂

You’ve just reminded me that I’ll have to probably relocate our DVDs if I don’t want them played with when our baby gets to be crawling and walking! I should cut down on the number we have, too!
