DIY Father’s Day Gift Idea – Framed Poem and Footprints

It can be hard to find the right gift for dad’s. My husband always buys everything he wants or needs, which makes gift giving a little difficult sometimes. Instead of going out and spending money on something he doesn’t really need, I prefer to give my husband a Father’s Day gift that the kids and I can make.

diy father's day gift idea footprints and poem

I made this lovely work of art a few years ago for my hubby’s Father’s Day Gift. I wanted to give him a cute and meaningful gift that he’d cherish for years to come. At the time, money was tight, so I wasn’t able to go out and buy much of anything.  This gift was inexpensive, simple to make, and thoughtful. It’s the perfect gift. The frame was about a dollar at Walmart, I already had the construction paper at home so I didn’t need to buy any, and I printed the photo and poem out on the printer.

If I were to make this again now there’s a few things I’d change. First of all I’d get the picture printed on photo paper. It’ll look much better than having it printed on printer paper. However, if you’re like I was, with not much to spend, printer paper works fine.  Instead of using construction paper, if you have card stock that might be a better option as the construction paper has faded over time.  I found the perfect poem online by searching for “Father’s Day Poems”.

It goes like this:

Daddy, Daddy I have made,
Prints of my little feet
Then you can remember when
I was small and sweet
I will grow
And baby days
Will all be in the past
But you can know my love for you
will forever last.

I LOVE the poem!  It’s so touching and reminds you just how fast kids grow up. If you’re looking for a simple and thrifty gift idea for your husband this Father’s Day, try this out!  You could also make this for Grandpa.  Just change the wording as you see fit.

I love the creative gifts that show you put thought into them. Unfortunately I do not have much of a creative side, so I have to borrow ideas! Thank you for this, going to use it for Grand Parents day coming up.

This is a really special gift for the dads on Fathers Day. You could also do this for a mom on her birthday or a grandma too. I made one for a friend of mine when her daughter was born. A from the heart gift.

This is absolutely adorable!!! I am going to have to “steal” it! I out did myself my husbands first father’s day by making a shutterfly book…I made the big lug cry. 🙂 I swore to myself that I would never be able to outdo myself but this might do the trick! Thanks

DIY hamdmade gifts are not like others gifts you buy, they can be appreciated so much more. I love this idea, especially that you can hang it up with other family photos. Great treasured idea.

That is a great idea! I like that you can look back and see things you’d like to change if you made it again. That’s a really hard thing to do sometimes, at least for me. Thanks for sharing your idea.
